SCUUG Conference Announcement

Updated

The South Central Unicorn Users Group will hold our annual conference in November 20-21, 2008, in Lubbock, TX at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Towers.  A preconference is being planned.  More conference information can be found at the SCUUG website.

SCUUG Call for Presentations

SCUUG is now welcoming proposals for user presentations.  Presentation proposals and suggestions will be accepted through October 1, 2008.

Submit proposals by e-mail to the SCUUG officers at conf-local@scuug.us.

Please include the following information in your proposal:

  • Name, affiliation, and contact information for each presenter for the session
  • Tentative title and a short description or abstract of your presentation or session

We welcome proposals for sessions on any aspect of using and managing Unicorn systems and broader issues related to information technology in libraries.

Additionally, the officers are soliciting volunteers to moderate round-table styled sharing sessions on various broad Unicorn topics, including:

  • System Administration/UNIX
  • System Administration/NT
  • API
  • Circulation
  • Cataloging/Technical Services
  • Serials
  • Acquisitions
  • OPAC

Preconference Planning

We are also interested in your suggestions for preconference sessions.  Possibilities exist for full-day or half-day sessions.  Send your suggestions to conf-local@scuug.us.

Whether you are willing to present (or even have an idea for something you would like to see), are willing to volunteer to moderate round-tables, or have preconference suggestions, the officers would appreciate an email to mailto:conf-local@scuug.usat your earliest convenience.  We’d also appreciate hearing from you if you are interested in volunteering to help with conference planning and logistics.  Thanks in advance for your help!

RUGs may request space for meeting at Superconference

Traditionally, SIGs have gotten space for meetings at Superconference.  For the 2009 Joint Conference, any RUG that requests space by January 16, 2009 will have a meeting space available.  Make requests for meeting space to the Program Committee

Finding other SirsiDynix libraries

One of the requests I received was to recreate the SirsiDynix client lists by library type that Sirsi used to make available on their website.  You might want to look at the UUGI Member List

Marshall Breeding has a great site called Lib-Web-Cats for searching for libraries by lots of criteria.  Use the advanced search screen, choose the desired Library Type, choose Unicorn in the Current Automation System, then click the Search button at the bottom.  Thanks, Marshall, for a great resource!

Welcome to UUGI’s RUG & SIG Blog

This is a place where things about UUGI Regional Users Groups and Special Interest Groups may be posted.  You can announce meetings, discuss RUG & SIG issues, use the space to coordinate and cooperate among RUGs & SIGs, and anything RUG-SIG-related.  This space may also be used to talk back to your UUGI Member At Large and other UUGI executive board members about how UUGI can better serve RUGs and SIGs.  Got concerns about the future of your RUG or SIG as merger talks proceed?  Talk about it here and/or the Merger Blog.

As this is not a secure site, the one thing we can’t do is publicly talk about specific Unicorn/Symphony technical issues that may expose corporate proprietary information.  But if we need a secure blog for that purpose, talk back to the Member At Large because we can get one.
